Why won't a light pen work with a liquid crystal display(LCD)

A light pen work with a liquid crystal display(LCD) :

An LCD does not need to be refreshed. Since the display is not, changed on a regular basis, there is nothing for the light pen to record. Furthermore, LCDs do not emit a brighter than usual(or darker than usual) burst the moment a pixel is turned on, so there is no way to distinguish which pixel is being race on and which pixel is already turned on.
